Resumo | Classification of water types in optically complex waters is a great challenge for remote sensing. Optically active substances (OAS) are present in various qualities and quantities, having complex interactions with the submersed light field. Nevertheless, remote sensing imagery is an important tool for environmental monitoring, and bio-optical researches are in development to provide appropriate means to map the OAS present in aquatic systems. The Amazonian basin is especially a complex environment with highly differing hydrogeochemical systems. With the aim to analyze the water types present in two sectors of the Amazonian floodplain, 57 samples of radiometric and limnological measurements were collected during the flooding period (june/2009) in the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve (MSDR) and in the medium and low course of the Amazon River. The Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM) was used to classify the water types based on a spectral library, built for the Amazon region according to Lobo (2009). Mainly, three water types were identified: black, clear and low concentrated white waters. The SAM classification had a relatively good agreement with the limnological properties: the black water class had 0% of error, while the others had 39%. The Mamirauá Reserve was characterized by dominance of black waters with high concentration of dissolved organic matter, while the medium and low course of the Amazon River were characterized by clear and white waters with low concentrations of suspended inorganic sediments. Despite some limitations, the classification was considered successful, with potential applications for imagery hyperspectral monitoring of the Amazon aquatic system. |
